Asbestos Services

Certified Asbestos Consulting and Compliance Support

Asbestos remains a critical environmental concern in many commercial, industrial, and public buildings. Whether encountered during renovations, demolition, or routine maintenance, asbestos-containing materials (ACM) must be identified, managed, and—when necessary—removed in strict accordance with regulatory guidelines.

Champion Environmental Consulting provides licensed asbestos services designed to help clients meet compliance obligations, minimize exposure risks, and document safe conditions throughout the lifecycle of a project. From initial inspection to final air testing, we ensure that every step is carried out by licensed professionals using approved methods and reporting protocols.

What Is Required?

Before beginning most renovation or demolition work, building owners are required to conduct an asbestos survey to determine the presence, location, and condition of ACM. This is not a best practice—it’s a legal requirement. State-level regulations, such as the Texas Asbestos Health Protection Rules (TAHPR), incorporate federal standards like the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP). Failure to comply can result in fines, project delays, or greater liability. An asbestos survey must be conducted by a licensed inspector and include representative sampling and laboratory analysis. If ACM is identified, further action—ranging from management to full abatement—must follow specific procedures. In many cases, licensed abatement contractors are required, and air monitoring during the removal process is mandatory.

What is Asbestos

Asbestos-testing-Services-austin-texas-raw.png

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was widely used in building materials due to its heat resistance and durability. Common applications included insulation, flooring, siding, ceiling textures, and roofing products.

The hazard comes when asbestos-containing materials (ACM) are disturbed, releasing microscopic fibers into the air. Inhalation of these fibers can cause serious, long-term health conditions, making professional asbestos testing and management critical for any renovation, demolition, or maintenance project.

Where Asbestos May Be Found

Asbestos can be hidden in a range of building materials, particularly in structures constructed before 1981.However, some newer buildings may contain asbestos products. Common locations include: - Pipe and boiler insulation - Floor tiles and adhesives - Wall and ceiling textures - Roofing materials and flashing - Ductwork and fireproofing systems Before disturbing any suspect material, it’s essential to complete an asbestos survey to protect workers, occupants, and project timelines.

Risk

Understanding The Risk

Asbestos fibers pose significant health risks when airborne and inhaled. Health conditions associated with asbestos exposure include mesothelioma, asbestosis, and other respiratory diseases. Because asbestos fibers are microscopic, visual inspection is not sufficient. Only certified testing and lab analysis can confirm the presence of ACM. Improper handling can expose workers and building occupants, leading to regulatory penalties, legal liability, and costly remediation efforts. Both property owners and contractors share responsibility for ensuring asbestos compliance during renovations and demolitions.
